Each edition of Monte-Carlo Society brings an opportunity to rediscover the most wonderful movies filmed in place du Casino, at the Hôtel de Paris and in other emblematic locations. The journey has been made possible using the archives of the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, which goes behind the scenes. With its famous buildings and inspiring actors, the 1970s were particularly prolific, with Italian, French and English filmmakers all drawn to the beauty of the Principality.

In 1970, in Elle boit pas, elle fume pas, elle drague pas, mais… elle cause! French director Michel Audiard brings his delicious dialogues to the screen with a seventies icon, the captivating Annie Girardot, who arrives in a carriage at the Place du Casino in Monte-Carlo, dressed in an elegant feathered dress.
After L’Homme-orchestre, a Franco-Italian musical film, 1970 also brought Roger Moore and Tony Curtis to Monaco with The Persuaders! The beating heart of Monte-Carlo was transformed into a huge film set for this British TV series, which was broadcast in 1971 and enjoyed worldwide success.
While The Mattei Affair was filmed in 1971, the sublime Katharine Ross came to the resort with the director Philippe Labro and the actor Yves Montand, for Chance and Violence, which was released in 1974.
In 1976, the plot of The Con Artists, an Italian film by Sergio Corbucci, unfolds in the height of the Roaring Twenties. The impressive Anthony Quinn can be spotted near the former Sporting d’Hiver with his newspaper and the mischievous Adriano Celentano.
