The festivities began with a big public party on the Rock, also attended by the princely family, on 31 May 2023: exactly 100 years to the day after the birth of Prince Rainier III.

A vibrant tribute to an emblematic figure of the Principality

Since then, Monaco has been paying homage to its builder prince who reigned for 56 years. “He was behind the Larvotto, Fonvieille and the floating dock. He had a vision to expand Monaco at a time when nothing like that was being done elsewhere,” says his daughter Princess Stéphanie, president of the centenary commemorations committee. From 20 July, an exhibition curated by Gotha specialist Stéphane Bern will take a deep dive into how this country has significantly expanded and transformed into a modern principality.

One unmissable item on the agenda is the “Rainier III at home” exhibition at the Prince’s Palace, featuring a collection of exceptional photographs of the statesman taken during visits by General de Gaulle and Nelson Mandela.
