This spring the Monegasque orchestra is honouring the piano in a series of symphony concerts and recitals featuring top artists of all ages, including Hélène Grimaud and Seong-Jin Cho. It is also hosting the 5th edition* of the Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition, which is usually held in Paris. “Art rewards those who devote their body and soul to it. This is what makes us happy in our profession. It is the meaning of life for a musician,” explained the Russian pianist. Svetlanov recalled in his will how attached he was to this competition, the ultimate proof of his passion for music and desire to pass it down to future generations.
The classical music contest is intended to be an international springboard for young conductors, and the final rounds are played to a live audience on Sunday 5 June.
